Jøtul F 105 R Wood Burning Stove — Compact, Characterful, and Class 1 Approved
Not every home needs a large stove. For smaller rooms, well-insulated homes, and spaces where a compact heat source works better than a big one, the Jøtul F 105 R wood burning stove is a genuinely strong choice. Small in footprint but full of character, it delivers a 4.9kW nominal output in a slim, confident body that stands out in any room it occupies. The short legs version is on display in our showroom, so come in and see the proportions and quality for yourself before you make your decision.
A Wide Horizontal Glass Door That Punches Above Its Size
The defining feature of the F 105 R is its large horizontal glass door. Rather than a tall portrait-format pane, the glass runs wide across the front of the stove — giving a generous, open view of the fire that feels larger than the stove’s compact dimensions would suggest. Because of this, the F 105 R delivers a flame picture that is genuinely enjoyable to sit beside, even in a smaller room where a taller stove would feel too heavy.
The air control is intuitive and easy to use, so managing the burn is straightforward from the first time you light it. Furthermore, an integrated ash solution keeps everyday maintenance tidy and simple — lift, carry, done. An optional ash lip is also available for the long legs and short legs versions as an accessory, along with an optional soapstone top across all three variants.
Class 1 Approved — Built for Low Energy Homes
One of the most important things to understand about the F 105 R is its Class 1 approval. In practical terms, this means the stove burns cleanly even at very low output levels — below 0.8kg of wood per hour — which is particularly important in modern, well-insulated homes where you often only need a small amount of heat. By contrast, Class 2 stoves only achieve clean combustion down to 1.25kg per hour. As a result, the F 105 R is a better fit for low energy homes and Passivhaus-style builds where a stove needs to work efficiently at the gentler end of its range rather than running flat out.
The stove burns optimally from 2.2kW upwards, making it well suited to rooms that need background warmth rather than maximum output. In addition, it is DEFRA exempt — so you can burn wood legally in a smoke control area — and it is fully Ecodesign compliant with an A+ energy label and excellent dust particle emissions of just 11 mg/Nm³.
Three Configurations — Choose the One That Suits Your Space
The F 105 R is available in three configurations, each changing how the stove sits in the room. The long legs version stands at 690mm tall and raises the firebox to a comfortable viewing height on traditional-style legs. The short legs version is notably lower at 550mm — a better fit for rooms where a lower profile works better, such as beside a raised hearth or in a setting where the stove needs to sit closer to the floor. The base version also stands at 690mm but replaces the legs with a solid plinth, giving the stove a cleaner, more grounded look that suits contemporary interiors well.
All three versions share the same core performance, approvals, and finish options in black paint. Jøtul casts every component in Norway to their usual high standard, and the quality shows in the weight and solidity of the stove.
